EMAP Open Championships
FAQ

  • What time should we arrive?
The doors open at 8:45 am. We will be starting at 9:15 am with the 4-7 year olds and all adult categories. Any other age category can arrive anytime between 8:45 am and 10am.
  • What category am I in?
All categories are split into the following age groups; 4-7 years 8-10 years 11 - 14 years 15 - 17 years 18 - 34 years 35 years and above (providing we have a sufficient number of entries). For high kick and long kick everyone will be in their age and gender groups and then split into groups based on height. For patterns it will be based on age and then grade. For sparring it will be based on age, grade and then weight. If you are unsure of your category please ask your coach to speak to a member of the EMAP team. Please note for sparring Point Stop Sparring is for Blue Stripes and below and all 4 - 7 year olds. Continuous Sparring is only for Blue Belts and above. Competitors will automatically be entered in to the correct category depending on their grade. On the day each competitor will be issued with a wrist band which has their category numbers on them, when we call each category listen out for those numbers.
  • When will my category be on?
We will be unable to give reliable estimates as to when categories will run. As a guide we will be starting with the 4-7 years olds as well as the adult categories. We will then work through the age groups from youngest to oldest as much as possible.
  • What are the competition rules?
All of the rules for the competition are sent to each club coach, please speak to them if you wish to ask questions regarding rules and equipment.
  • How many are in my category and can I see who else is in it?
We make it a general policy that we don’t give out the list of competitors/ numbers in each category as sometimes they need to change last minute.
  • How long will I be there for?
We try to run the day as efficiently as possible but there can often be delays which are out of our control such as people arriving late to their category, when medical attention is needed or if we need to change the officials around. We know it’s always a long day for everyone including those helping out so please be patient with us as we can’t give you an answer as to how long you will be waiting for your category to begin.
  • What happens if I miss my category?
All categories begin with a roll call on the ring. Anyone who is not there will then be called twice via the PA system, the second time will be announced as the final call. They will have 5 minutes to make it to the ring. If after 5 minutes the competitor has not arrived on the ring, and the category has begun, they will not be able to participate in that event. They will also not be put into an alternative category and refunds will not be given.
  • Do we have stay for the whole day?
Once all of the events you have entered are complete you are free to go home or you can stick around and watch some of the other categories if you wish.
  • My ticket says the wrong name.
When registering you will possibly enter two names, one the name of the person completing the form and two the name of the participant. All event tickets will have the name of the person completing the form. If you are registering on behalf of someone else as long as their name is entered as the name of participant this is the name we will use when entering them in to each category. If the name you have entered under name of participant is incorrect please email us.
